Carson City

Carson City

Carson City was found in 1858, named after American frontiersman Kit Carson, it serves as the Capital of the State of Nevada.  One of the many fascinating facts about Carson City is that it was home to a United States. Though it coined gold and silver only from 1870 to 1893, it has left American numismatics with a rich legacy. Most of its coins are scarce to rare, some of them being tremendous rarities. Others, such as the silver dollars of 1882-84, have survived in vast numbers for reasons that have nothing to do with their original mintage figures. All of these coins, whatever their rarity or market value, carry romantic associations with the Old West and the great bonanza years of the late 19th Century.  Although Carson City is the State Capital with the Legislative hustle and bustle every biennium, Nevada Legislature meets every other year on odd years, it still retains its old-time charm with a quaint downtown and many well-preserved Victorian homes.  Similar to most areas in Northern Nevada, Carson City offers year-round events like the Nevada Day Parade (last Saturday of October), year round wine walks, many street fairs and a farmers market.  For more information visit Carson City.
